Muawiya ibn Sofyan was govenor of Syria since the reign of 2nd Caliphate. In reign of 3rd Caliphate he also remained as governor by 3rd Caliph Usman r.a. In Syria, Muawiya was passing his life not as life of Prophet pbuh and his followers as well as like caliphs of Madina. Abu Zar Ghaffari r.a was opposing Muawiya due to following manners.

They planned to attack on them and Abdul Rehman son of Muljim was given task to attack on Ali. On 19 Ramzan al Mubarak 40 Hijri (27 January 661 AD) Muljim attacked on Ali while he was prostrating in Fajar prayer with his poisoned coated sword.
