Ali participated in the battle himself and this news worried Syrian army as all Syrian including Muawiya knew the bravery of Ali and his companions. Battle continued till night and that time Ali and his army pushed Syrian army back 500 meters.

They planned to attack on them and Abdul Rehman son of Muljim was given task to attack on Ali. On 19 Ramzan al Mubarak 40 Hijri (27 January 661 AD) Muljim attacked on Ali while he was prostrating in Fajar prayer with his poisoned coated sword.
